As an Electrical Product Designer Co-op, you will:

Responsibilities

  • Support design teams in design of components and systems for use with SEAMOR Marine ROVs that meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost requirements
  • Generate schematics, PCB layout, manufacturing files and BOMs
  • Develop embedded C/C++ firmware used in systems and components
  • Assembly, testing & documentation of new designs and revisions
  • Troubleshooting, fault analysis and technical support for new designs and legacy products
  • Sourcing and incorporating appropriate off-the-shelf components into designs/systems
  • Provide regular updates and communication on for project progress and performance
  • Perform calculations and assessment as required for new core technology product design and analysis under the guidance of the Lead Designer
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary technical team to develop unique solutions to complex challenges in subsea environments
  • Contribute to the Engineering Change Control (ECC) process and documentation for the Product Development department, including communication/collaboration with the Production Manager

Qualifications

  • 3rd or 4th year student of university Degree or college diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Required Experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in circuit design and prototyping
  • Understanding of components, PCB layout/ layer stack up, and library management
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or similar
  • Embedded programming in C/C++
  • SVN and GIT version control systems
  • Able to manage multiple projects/priorities at once and meet deadlines
  • Familiar with MS Office (excel, word, powerpoint, etc)
  • Operation of electrical measurement tools (oscilloscope, signal analyzer, multimeter)
  • PCB Assembly (soldering, component placement, testing)

  • Robotics, mechatronics, and embedded systems
  • Circuit design including o DC-DC linear and switch mode power supplies
    • DC motor control
    • AVR/ARM MCU integration
    • Analog circuits including comparators and amplifiers
    • Signal processing, noise management
    • Communications transceiver integration
    • Fiber optics
    • Video, including analog composite
  • Communications protocols (Ethernet, RS-485/422, I2C, SPI, and CAN)
  • Cable harness component selection and design
  • Design for marine & subsea environmental conditions
